Crown of Saint Wenceslas set proof The Czech Mint has closely collaborated with Austria’s Münze Österreich. This collaboration has produced a unique set consisting of a coin and a medal that is unparalleled in the Czech Mint’s history. The set is available in a limited edition of 500 pieces, including an Austrian gold coin and a Czech silver medal, all packaged in a luxurious case made of dark wood. The unifying motif of the set is the Crown of Saint Wenceslas, the symbol of Czech statehood and a crown jewel of paramount significance the value of which exceeds any monetary amount.Charles IV had the St. Wenceslas Crown made for his coronation as King of Bohemia. He dedicated it to the first patron saint of the country, St. Wenceslas. Currently it is kept along with the royal orb, the sceptre and the other Bohemian Crown jewels in St. Vitus Cathedral and it is safeguarded by seven locks whose keys are held by seven representatives of Czech national statehood. On the obverse side, the gold coin with the nominal value of €100 features the Crown of Saint Wenceslas – a goldsmith’s work of art, placed on a drapery-lined cushion embroidered with the coat of arms symbolizing the Czech lion. Prague’s Charles Bridge is featured to the monarch’s right against the backdrop of Lesser Town’s Hradčany and St. Vitus Cathedral. The coin’s field is encircled with a decorative pearl pattern. The silver medal featuring a motif of the Crown is designed to highlight to the greatest extent the graceful shapes of the royal lily, the largest gems of the Crown and its overall dimensions. The top part of the obverse side shows the insignia of the Bohemian Kingdom – the Czech lion and the “eagle-in-flames” symbol of the Premyslid dynasty. The circumscription lettered around the rim reads Crown of Saint Wenceslas, complemented with the mint mark and the hallmark of the coin’s purity. The right part of the reverse side depicts the portrait of St. Wenceslas inspired by the statue of St. Wenceslas placed in the St. Wenceslas Chapel in St. Vitus Cathedral. The left part of the reverse side shows a low relief of St. Vitus Cathedral. The text in circumscription reads St. Vitus Cathedral, Saint Wenceslas, and is complemented with the author’s initials. Parametres: Gold coin 100 Euro Au 986/ 16 g/ 30 mm/ proof, Silver medal Ag 999/ 16g / 34 mm/ proof.Limited edition of 500 pieces
