200-crown silver coin Rabbi Yehuda Löw standard The 200-crown piece is minted from an alloy containing 900 parts silver and 100 parts copper in standard quality and with a reeded edge. The obverse side of the coin features a composition of four six-pointed Stars of David of various sizes with inscribed years reminiscent of pogroms directed against the Jewish population in the Czech lands. The inscription around the left, bottom and right rim shows the name of the state in Czech “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA”. Each letter of the word “ČESKÁ” is of a different size. On the right side of the largest Star of David are the denomination and the abbreviated unit of Czech currency “200 Kč”. The mintmark of the Czech Mint is placed between the word “REPUBLIKA” in the name of the state and the right edge of the largest Star of David. The reverse side of the coin features a silhouette of the Golem. The space between the Golem’s figure and the rim of the coin is filled with Hebrew texts from the Talmud, but in a reverse order, as intended by the designer to signify a look back at the history of the Jewish community in the Czech lands. On the Golem’s figure is inscribed in Czech the legend “RABI JEHUDA LÖW BEN BECALEL” and the anniversary dates “1609 – 2009”. The coin was designed by Josef Šafařík whose initials, consisting of the large “J” with the inserted smaller “Š”, can be found to the right from the letter “Ö” in the word “LÖW”.Each coin comes complete with a postcard-sized catalogue card made of cream semi-carton. It features the coin in silver colour, its relief being dry-stamped. The coin description is in Czech and English. The card is identical for both standard and proof coins.Limited edition of 11,300 pieces.
