Gold investment coins Krugerrand have been struck since 1967 to boost the South African gold market. The name of the coin is a composition consisting of the name of the Boer politician and Transvaal president Paul Kruger and the South African currency – rand. The coin is considered as the first modern investment coin and with 60 million pieces struck it is by far the most liquid gold coin worldwide.
