A silver commemorative medal to the birth of a child of the Czech Mint combines two Czech ancient traditions - the custom of dedicating to the newborn baby a coin of precious metal for good luck and the historical mintage of so-called thalers. Did you know, that the thalers spread around the world from Bohemia? The Earl Šlik of Jáchymov began to mint them in the 16th century. The Czech lands were teeming with an abundance of silver, which was supposed to replace gold coins, whose minting was not sufficient to the precious metal in Europe. From the name thaler were later deduced names of many other coins and currencies, including the world-renowned dollars. In the past, thalers were used primarily for business purposes, but also played the role of representation. These tasks are met even today - the thaler offered to the birth of a child combines the artistic value of a processed pure metal of personal value - increased further with the engraved dedication. The artistic layout of the obverse side of the thaler is the work of a talented artist Lenka Nebeská, DiS. She has placed on it a sleeping baby wrapped in a shawl surrounded by feathers. It symbolizes a legend, that says that the baby is brought to the parents by a stork or a crow. A copy of the text states TOLAR K NAROZENÍ DÍTĚTE  /Thaler for the birth of a child/ and the year 2017. The reverse side is then dominated by a ribbon in the shape of heart, which defines a space designed to engrave the dedication or name and date of birth. The maximum range of the engraved text is bounded by 4 lines of 15 characters, including spaces. Each thaler is stored in an elegant gift package, which can also provide a handwritten dedication, but also an information about the baby or his photographs.
