The collection of unique medals, Art for Václav Havel by Czech Mint, can boast another beautiful addition – the Horizon of Memory silver medal. Its author is the renowned Czech decorative artist, Jiří David. With his work, he not only added to the world of numismatics with an exclusive gem but also supported a good cause – the preservation of St. Anne’s Church also known as the Prague Crossroads. Prague Crossroads is an international spiritual centre founded as a project of the Dagmar and Václav Havel VIZE 97 Foundation, which pursues the preservation of the exceptional structure. The deconsecrated church that houses Prague Crossroads was founded by St. Wenceslas in 927 AD. The participants in the effort towards its preservation now include Czech Mint and leading Czech artists – Bořek Šípek, Jiří David, Kurt Gebauer, Aleš Lamr, David Černý, Jaroslav Róna and Olbram Zoubek. They all have joined their creative forces in order to fulfil a big wish of the former Czech president and make Prague Crossroads into a venue for meetings, discussions, concerts, exhibitions, happenings and meditation. A place where ideas from people of various creeds, convictions and professions will mingle. This is why the proceeds from the sale of the medals will be donated to the VIZE 97 Foundation. The Horizon of Memory is a new brilliant addition to the Art for Václav Havel series courtesy of Jiří David. The controversial graphic artist, photographer and decorative artist is perhaps best known for installing a giant Neon Heart atop Prague Castle. His portfolio has now grown to include another exceptional work of art. The reverse side bears St. Anne’s face with the ground plan of her church’ nave, expressing the connection between the human mind and beauty in its spiritual transcendence. The Prague Crossroads logo completes the design. The obverse side bears the author’s unconventional composition as an allegory of the conflicts, crossroads, directions, starting points and chaos that determines our being. The attractive medal is issued in a limited number of 400 units and your collections should not miss it. By purchasing it, you express your admiration for contemporary Czech art as well as generously supporting Václav Havel’s brilliant idea.
