Czech ducats coined in the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou have been popular among collectors since 1997. This traditional coin series must not be missing from any annual Emission Plan of the Czech Mint, manufacturer of Czech commemorative coins and medals. The ducat quartet consists of a one-ducat, a two-ducat, a five-ducat and a ten-ducat coins. The theme usually covers a longer period with just the year changing - the motifs on the ducats from 1997 on are shown below. The 2014 quartet presents a brand new theme - Coronation Jewels. The one-ducat coin with the weight of one tenth of a troy ounce (3.11 g) and the diameter of 16 mm closes the quartet. The motif is the Coronation Cloak - the gown used for more than two centuries for coronation of Bohemian kings. The Coronation Cloak was made for the coronation of Ferdinand II Czech king in 1617. It was used for the last time for the coronation of Ferdinand V in 1836. The king was dressed in the cloak at the beginning of the coronation ritual and received the other royal insignia from the archbishop still dressed in the cloak. The cloak was made of the precious silk material of red colour called Golden Head, and ermine fur lining. The author of the one-ducat coin with the coined year 2014 is the significant Czech Academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, a demanded author of commemorative coins and medals with historic motifs.
